I have reviewed Amrut Fusion before in November 2011, however my lack of pedantic note taking at that time means I don’t know which batch that sample came from. Apparently that matters as was much discussed on the USA Tweet Tasting that I recently participated in because Fusion expressions can vary greatly. This is batch 23 released in May 2013 (also known as sample 3 in the blind tasting). The nose has malt, chocolate, nuts, baked cakes with perhaps one slightly burned in the baking. The taste has peat (didn’t not expect that from nose), pepper and rather unnervingly, fresh strawberries. With a little water it gets sweeter the fresh berries become more strawberry jam. Fruitiness carries into finish and some more peat is the last impression. Very nice and I rated this one (and sample 4) as equal “second favorite whisky” of the night.
