Another whisky first for me; South African whisky. I am also not 100% sure if this is technically a single grain or blended grain but as it seems unlikely to be mutiple South African grain whisky distilleries I am going with "single grain" however I know at some point whisky from Scotland was blended with the local product. I am giving this the benefit of doubt however and calling it South African single grain. Feel free whisky pedants to correct me. The nose has a hit of fresh paint at first then opens up with some lovely butter and vanilla notes. There is strong oak influence in taste, spices and more vanilla and then some butterscotch. A very nice mouthfeel. The finish is not long but unusually sweet with more butterscotch. So this has a spicy taste and sweet finish. I usually get the opposite, more sweet in taste and then oak in finish ... is this a southern hemisphere effect like water swirling the opposite way down the plug hole?
