This expression recently got quite a "bashing" on Whiskycast Virtual Tastings. A couple of years ago Ardbeg Blasda got similar treatment on The Malted Muse podcast and I felt compelled to defend it's honor and so I wanted to try this one as well and bought a sample from Master of Malt. The nose was very peaty, briney and has a hint of kippers. The taste is spicy at first with lemon peel and hints of dark bitter chocolate. The finish has some pepper, cinnamon gum and smoke. Not overly complex, for me the major Ardbeg traits were there... primarily peat, smoke and lemon... but not much else around them other than a little pepper and spice. Not their best work.
