I am not exactly sure what type of Japanese whisky this is. The definitive Japanese whisky website, Nonjatta, calls it a blend but the name, ABV and taste all suggested single malt, blended malt or even single cask. Anyway, whatever it is, it is good. The nose is the perhaps the best feature, sweet and fruity like baked jam tarts, dates and figs and at 51% ABV some alcohol as well. The taste has more tangy fruits, citrus and caramel comes through as well. The finish builds with pepper and oak notes, but everything is tightly integrated and complex with nothing really jumping out and all playing nicely together. A real mind bender this one, rich and sweet, if it is blend of grain and malts I doubt anyone tasting blind would guess it. With a drop of water it got a little sweeter but lost some of it's fruity complexity in the nose (and therefore tasted different too) so even at 51% I would drink this one neat (and probably quite a lot of it too).
