I am generally a big fan of port finished whisky and have been quite impressed by Kavalan as well and so was really looking forward to this. I was not disappointed, but perhaps in part because of high expectations, I was not blown away either. The nose is malt, caramel and very enticing. The taste is toffee apples, cinnamon bread, raisins, brown sugar and then black pepper. The finish is dry, spicy and the port wine influence is clear but not dominant. Perhaps increasing ABV from the 40% of this bottling to 46% (or even just 43%) would be the difference between good and great?
