The first time I tried this was at the Famous Grouse experience in Glenturret and I remember being quite taken aback by such an assertive blend. I did not get around to trying it again until it appeared in Edition 2 of 101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die (see blog entry... http://www.somanywhiskies.com/blog/item/652-114-whiskies-to-try-before-you-die-part-1-a-new-list). This 40% ABV blend is finished in Oloroso sherry casks, but you don't need me to tell you that, just open a bottle and smell. The nose has raisins, spice, mince pies, malt and jumps out of the glass, no coaxing required. The taste is tannic and assertive on the palate at first (as I recalled from my first taste in Glenturret) but with time toffee sweetness along with dark chocolate and pepper. The finish is long and dry for blend and quite woody. With water it gets smoother and creamier and a little peppermint as well.
