Not many brands choose to stretch from bottom shelf "value" to top shelf "exclusive" but Evan Williams is one of the few. After searching stores and whiskey bars in the USA I finally found a bottle (several bottles actually) in Milroy's of Soho in late 2013. In the not so distant past paying top dollar for rare and exotic pleasures was much more common in Soho than it is today! The nose is spicy and woody with hints of charred oak and brown sugar. A classic rye based bourbon with a little burn from the 53.5% ABV. The taste is as rich and complex as you would expect for 23 year old bourbon. Balanced between the constrasting oak spice and corn sweetness. Subtle (or perhaps overpowered?) vanilla and black fruits. The finish has wood, pepper with rye and coffee in a big, long finish. Good stuff and worth the wait.
