Knockando Master Reserve 21 year old

This was one of those great surprises that makes trying new whisky so much fun.  Peering across the bar of a hotel in France I saw this sitting on the back shelf (I like to think forgotten and unloved) and ordered one.  I was really glad I did.  The nose was dominated by sherry, fruits and a little malt as well.  The taste had lots of toffee and milk chocolate and was very smooth.  I wrote down "like eating a Rolo while sniffing sherry".  There was also some familiar sherried whisky spices.  The finish was (as you might expect) drying and even slightly disapointing.  The dry oakiness turned almost bitter, like the more acrid smoke notes from a bonfire.  Not sure I would ever buy a bottle but will definately help you drink yours if you decide to buy one.
