My Handcrafted Opinions on Whiskies, Distilleries and Other Related Stuff

Pampero Aniversario

Before I really got into whisky in 2006, I used to travel to Venezuela a lot on business and was introduced there to this local rum that comes in a a very distinctive leather bag.  Ironically my Venezuelan friends all drank Johnnie Walker Black, great people but clearly no taste.  Meanwhile I learned to love this rum and still regularly buy a bottle.  The nose has raisins, fruit, vanilla and sweet molasses (as you might expect).  The taste is sweet, toffee, some ripe banana and other fruity notes.  It is very smooth and it's easy to drink a lot of it.  The finish has a little bite to it and some more fruit and spices, even a fuitcake quality.  If you see it (and you cant miss in it's leather pouch) I suggest you try it.  Is it good?  Si.
