Woodford Reserve Distillers Select Straight Rye

This bottle was labelled #3031 from Batch 0887 and bottled at 45.2% ABV.  The nose was very nice, herbal tea with mint and sweet vanilla notes.  The mouthfeel is fresh, light and oily, bittersweet on palate with more vanilla, candy, black coffee and dark chocolate.  The finish has peppermint, wood and grassy rye notes.  With water it gets sweeter, even honeyed, while heat builds in the finish with chilli spiced dark chocolate.  Overall very delicious; a light and subtle of straight rye.

    Edradour 1995 Bordeaux Cask Finish

This was the last of four cask strength samples (this expression was the highest at 58.4% ABV) and I think looking at my notes that my palate was feeling the impact of that by the time I tried this one. The nose was sweet and with lots of vanilla and fruits. The taste was a little harsh at first , then came red fruits and spice. With water it gets sweeter (but still a little hot) and some more vanilla comes through. The finish; I think my notes say it all…. “dry, very dry”. This one was my least favorite of the four (though is suffered from being the last sample I suspect) and I found it too dry and hot.
